Luke, Jim and Tom Reenact Field of Dreams Scene

Critics Suggest Scene Loses its Effect without Corn

Scores gathered at the VFW field in Lake Elmo last night to witness the re-match of the arch rivals, St Croix and Lake Elmo.  Lake Elmo was set to avenge an earlier loss to the Mavericks.

Neither squad would dissapoint the crowd.  Outstanding pitching by both sides led to a fast 5 innings in 60 minutes.  Lake Elmo clung to a 3-0 lead going into the top of the 7th.  The Mavericks did not give in and scored 4 to take a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the inning.

However, Lake Elmo was not to be denied.  They hammered out 3 hits and drove in 2 runs for the 5-4 victory.  Great game by both teams.

Despite the game excitement, some of the Maverick fans deceided to put on a show of their own.  Believing they could melt away into the soy beans, Tom, Luke and Jim repeatedly tried, but as you can see in the photo, it just works better with corn.

Vollm(e)r Slides in for a Home Run

Vollm(e)r Blast leads Mavericks Bats

The 13AA Mavericks experienced a batting break out weekend, pounding out 32 hits; including 8 doubles and 1 home run in Eagan on Saturday.  Vollm(e)r led the way with a huge smash to left center, rounding the bases for a home run.  Buege went 5-9 with 2 doubles, Uphus was 4-7 and Hughes along with Vollm(e)r each went 4-8.

The Mavericks went 32-91, for a team average of .352, in the 3 tourney games.  This is a huge boost as the Mavs have been struggling at the plate this season.  They head into the last 6 league games knowing they can compete with the best.

Key Changes ahead for Wessels

The River Falls tourney started off with a great win Friday night by the Mavericks.  Outstanding hitting and pitching led them to victory.  But the celebration was soon to end.

Mav's players as well as some from the opposing team headed for shelter under the bleachers.  No, this was not the tornado warning drill from Saturday night, it was the search for the lost Wessels keys!

It seems Mrs. Wessels made her first error of the season, allowing younger Wessels the opportunity to head to the parking lot (with the keys) to get the camera.  As the game concluded, Wessels was in a state of panic, and the search was on.

No fewer than several hundred (or at least 10) helpful souls crawled, climbed, scoured, dug in the dirt, and walked the most recent path taken by Mrs. Wessels, to no avail.  Keys are gone.  Or are they?

Kellen Wessels and Jacob Doe headed out to the parking lot, only to find the van open and much to Doe's surprise, keys in the back seat!  Doe will be honored by the City of River Falls this coming weekend for his outstanding civic service.  Mrs. Wessels, while in good spirits, clearly was distraught by the mental error.
